The South Oakville family guide
21 schools, 51 licensed child care centres and 121 neighbourhood and community parks, spread unevenly across seven areas. This page is about where they actually are, and what to confirm before relying on any of it.
Schools
16 elementary and 5 secondary schools operate south of the QEW, across the Halton District School Board, the Halton Catholic District School Board and the two French-language boards.
Every school has a profile with its board, grade range, enrolment and published EQAO results. We do not rank schools and publish no composite score — EQAO percentages describe one cohort in one year against a provincial standard, which is useful context and not a league table.
Catchments: confirm, never assume
This is the single most consequential thing on this page. School attendance boundaries are set by the boards, they are reviewed periodically, and they change. A boundary that held when a house was bought may not hold when the child starts.
We publish no catchment maps. That is deliberate: a third-party map that is even slightly out of date, used to choose a house, causes real harm. Confirm the attendance area for a specific address directly with the Halton District School Board or the Halton Catholic District School Board.
Childcare
51 licensed child care centres operate in South Oakville, from the Ontario Ministry of Education’s licensed facilities dataset. 25 offer before- or after-school programmes, and 5 offer French-language programming.
Licensing status and available spaces are different things. This list reflects licences, not vacancies — waiting lists in Oakville are long, and the practical advice is to register interest well before you need a place. Confirm current availability with the operator.

Parks and playgrounds
South Oakville has a large park count, and most of it is valley land. The number that matters to a family is the 121 neighbourhood and community parks — the ones with playgrounds, fields and courts. The parks guide separates the categories and lists the largest.
Recreation and libraries
The Town runs six community centres, three of them in South Oakville: Oakville Trafalgar (325 Reynolds Street), Trafalgar Park (133 Rebecca Street) and Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (2302 Bridge Road). Between them they carry pools, arenas, gyms, older-adult and youth programming, and in the case of QEPCCC a substantial arts facility.
Oakville Public Library operates branches across the town, several attached to community centres. Programme registration and current hours are on the Town’s site rather than here, because both change every season.
How the areas compare for families
Household composition varies more than you would expect across seven adjacent areas. The share of households with children is the most telling single figure.
| Neighbourhood | Households with children | Schools | Childcare | Parks with facilities |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronte | 57.5% | 2 | 6 | 33 |
| Southwest Oakville | 68.7% | 2 | 6 | 9 |
| West Oakville | 65.3% | 7 | 10 | 13 |
| Kerr Village | 56.1% | 3 | 7 | 24 |
| Old Oakville | 54.7% | 1 | 7 | 17 |
| Morrison | 73.4% | 4 | 9 | 11 |
| Clearview | 69.8% | 2 | 6 | 14 |
An area with no school in it is not badly served — board catchments cross our coverage areas freely. It does change what the walk to school looks like.
